Nursing Rotation Posts

The following rotation posts are well established within Surgical Services. Work is currently being undertaken to develop more rotation posts throughout the Trust, across Directorates as well as specialities. However, if you have specific areas of interest it may be possible to organise a development post tailor-made to your needs.
Hepatology, Transplantation and High Dependency Nursing
Wards C9 and F5 are offering newly qualified and experienced D grades the opportunity to undertake an 18-month rotational development programme. This would consist of 6 month each in the following areas:
  • Ward F5-hepatology and general medicine
  • Ward C9 – Liver, Renal and Intestinal Transplantation
  • Transplant HDU – Transplantation and acute liver failure
A programme of preceptorship and education will be an integral part of this experience. A monthly appraisal and objective setting will enable the post holder to obtain the maximum benefit from the rotation.

For further information please contact Jim O’Sullivan, Charge Nurse ward C9 on 01223 245151 ext. 3308 e-mail jim.osullivan@addenbrookes.nhs.uk

Surgical Services Overview

There are many opportunities open to you once you join us in Surgical Services : professional development is high on the agenda.

Nursing staff are supported by the Practice Development Nurse and part time Training & Development Nurse. Many areas run specific development programmes for staff in their areas and have a senior nurse to assist with training and development. All staff are encouraged to participate in the various Trust wide training programmes, as well as those specific to Surgical Services, some examples :

  • Education Programme
  • Ward Managers Programme
  • Clinical Support Programme for Return to Practice Nurses and Overseas Nurses
  • Individual Development Programmes
  • Venepuncture and Cannulation Training
  • F Grade Development Programme
  • Rotational Posts as describe above

Opportunities

We work closely with Homerton College, School of Health Studies who provide Specialist ENB Courses, many of which can be undertaken as part of a degree programme and which link in with the specialist area of work. There is also the opportunity to undertake core ENB courses such as teaching & assessing, wound care, diabetic course, research awareness etc.

Once you begin work within Surgical Services you can appreciate the wealth of opportunities available. It is possible to gain experience in a variety of specialities, as programmes can be tailor made to suit your needs and enhance your career.

Forthcoming Opportunities

Within Surgical Services we are currently in the process of organising a development programme to underpin all our rotational posts. This will consist of formal study days including professional and training issues and should be in place by the autumn, 1999.

Rotational Programmes give a valuable insight into the wealth of opportunities available within Surgical Services.
